Welcome to St Thomas the Apostle School and Sixth Form College. We are an outstanding Catholic secondary school for boys with a co-educational sixth form located in Nunhead, South East London. Our progress 8 score of +1.45 (2024) places us as the Number 10 school in the country. Our students consistently achieve over one grade higher than expected in each of their GCSEs.

Achievements such as these are born out of a culture of hard work and success. Our most recent Ofsted inspection (November 2024) has confirmed that our school is still outstanding in all categories. The boys take tremendous pride in their school community and their learning. One student told the Ofsted Inspectors: “We enter as boys, but we leave as young men.”

St Thomas the Apostle is a school where success is achieved within a nurturing Christian community. This is reflected in our motto “Achieving Excellence with Care”. The school provides structure, support, celebrates success and recognises the unique talents of young people as individuals. Students in our school receive the very highest quality education, personalised to meet their individual needs, strengths and interests, so that they leave with the foundations for a successful life.

We insist on the highest standards of behaviour, uniform, attitude to learning and respect for one another and the environment. By providing a traditional, yet broad and balanced curriculum for all our students, we are able to recognise and develop individual talents and interests.

Building on our growing reputation for excellence, we opened our Sixth Form in September 2015. Our students benefit from the close links with the best universities in the country and last year, 100% of students progressed onto their first choice post-18 destination.

I have always been guided by the proverb that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and I know that together with the teaching team, parents and wider community, we can continue to grow as a school that we are truly proud of.
