Catholic Life at St Thomas the Apostle College
Holy Mass
As a Catholic College we are a Eucharistic community. Local clergy celebrate Mass for different Year Groups at regular intervals throughout the school year.
Whole College Masses are celebrated on Holy Days of Obligation and on the Feast of St Thomas the Apostle.
Our Chaplaincy team prepare the Masses and staff and pupils are involved in the readings, bidding prayers, serving, offertory processions etc.
Daily Prayers
Prayers are said every day during staff briefings. Students will also reflect in form time using the Prayer Booklet which contains Catholic Prayers and Secular Reflections. Each lesson begins with the sign of the cross. Our Muslim students are invited to do Friday prayers at lunch time.
Works of Charity
As a Christian community we take very seriously our commitment to Charity. We regard works of Charity as an essential part of the students’ education.
A Christmas Hamper collection of food and gifts is donated to those in need in our community. We also have an annual Charity Week when we have a number of fundraising activities with money raised going to a chosen charity for that year. We also have our annual sponsored Bridge Walk which follows Charity Week, where all students and staff are invited to continue their fundraising efforts.
Retreats
Each year group will have an opportunity to reflect on a key theme each year, as is important to their spiritual and personal development. These are designed so that they are inclusive to all, regardless of their faith background.
The themes are as follows:
